Ingrid Putri (1996) started her artistic journey in 2019 after graduating from the Dutch Literary Study at Universitas Indonesia. In the same year, she moved to Belgium and studied Fine Art at Academie Brugge DKO (Deeltijds Kunst Onderwijs) in Bruges. There she began to learn and become familiar with painting techniques after previously learning Dutch culture, paintings, and architecture at the university as part of her study.
Born and raised in a family belonging to a minority community in Indonesia, Ingrid has faced many diversities from an early age. Along the way, these differences sometimes make her question the cultural aspects she actually upholds. There were times when she felt alienated in her own country, which then encouraged her to expose herself to foreign (western) cultures and migrate to another country in order to feel belonged. The journey has not always been as smooth as imagined. Many other issues arise as a result of the displacement. Through her composition of work, she tries to embrace the sentiments that emerge from related matters. Traveling far from home apparently makes her able to see and appreciate the differences she once felt and started loving them. Besides, it turns out that different values have also shaped her as an individual who is not tied to just one particular culture and who is able to absorb diverse cultural influences.
The first appearance of her work in public space was when she worked on a year-end painting which was exhibited at Atelier Ann Vrielinck, Bruges. At that time, her style was rotating around portraits and figurative paintings. While developing her signature pieces, in 2021, she was trusted to paint a commission piece for a short film produced by Make Way Film with Zeg Maar Film titled "A Deer Caught in The Headlights". This film was selected for many film festivals, especially in the United States. She currently embodies her feelings and ideas through mixed-media art from her home studio in Amsterdam.
